Much like the recent storm tore through the northwest the prior day, the home side swept Manchester United aside at the Etihad. It was a convincing three-nil triumph for their manager's side thanks to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their title credentials as they consolidated their standing at the top of the table.

Successive Defeats for United

This result marked successive league losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the top team with their title hopes in serious doubt.

United’s capability to balance league and continental soccer with a limited team has been a hotly discussed topic since they secured entry to the Champions League. Reviewing the schedule, it always seemed this was the week that would truly test this capability. Unfortunately for the away side, they looked fatigued from start to finish, the memorable win against PSG clearly having had an impact.

Team Changes

The hosts, in contrast, could have extended their advantage when a delightful Miedema pass sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it mattered little to the hosts.
